creditNOffLA members should be aware of a credit card scam attempted at some Dublin outlets last summer and may be repeated during summer 2010. One member of the association describes the attempt:

“A gentleman calls claiming to have been let down by another supplier for a party the next day.  He orders a substantial amount and asks for a price for the stock.  A couple of calls later he says he will send someone to the store to pick it up and will pay over the phone with his wife’s card.  He says he works for a credit card terminal company and can talk you through how to do this. He is quite well spoken and insistent and could perhaps persuade a junior member of staff to do this.”

The summer months are often a time when temporary staff members fill in to provide holiday cover. Such staff might be more easily persuaded by the professionalism of these fraudsters.
