Model and mum-of-two Claudine Keane, officially launched Spar’s new health and wellbeing initiative ‘Spar Better Choices’ this week, before flying out to France for the most anticipated soccer tournament of the year.

Rolling out in stores nationwide across the summer, the Spar Better Choices campaign aims to offer customers a new range of healthy and convenient options, from across the fresh food, deli and grocery ranges. The initiative also caters to customers with varying nutritional needs with low fat, high protein, and gluten free products on offer.

The new health banner sees Spar redefine its offering to customers across a range of over 250 products, in response to changes in Irish consumers’ lifestyle choices. Whereas eating on-the-go has traditionally meant a limited choice and little information available on nutritional content, Spar says its new initiative will ensure eating in a hurry doesn’t mean compromising on health.

The convenience retailer partnered with dietician Ellen Roche to research and carefully select which produce to include in the range. A member of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute, Roche has spent many months working with Spar on the new development, which sees healthy products highlighted in stores with the Spar Better Choices logo. Snack favourites under Spar Better Choices include fresh fruit, popcorn, rice cakes, nuts and seeds.

As a busy mum who is always on the move and passionate about providing her family with healthy foods, Claudine Keane was an ideal person to launch the new range.

Speaking about the initiative, Willie O’Byrne, managing director, BWG Foods said: “Our customers, many of whom are parents, are leading busy lives on the run and we feel passionate that eating well should be a priority and that with the Spar Better Choices range they can expect to find the right choice for them under the tree at Spar.’’

The new initiative is already in a number of Spar stores and will roll out further over the coming months.
