The Irish Grocers Benevolent Fund recently held its third annual Grocers Fun Run, which organisers have hailed as another great success. More than 1,200 runners took part in the event, which has become an established date in the social diary for retail but also for the general public.

IGBF chairman Leonard Hegarty said the event is growing from strength to strength. “The buzz and energy on the day was incredible,” he said. “It’s great to see both suppliers and retailers breaking bread together and supporting such a great charity.

“The IGBF supports over 200 families,” he added, “and this event is all about family.”

Kari Daniels, head of Tesco Ireland and current president of appeals for the IGBF, said she was thrilled to see so many attendees from the industry along with their families.

“The Grocers Fun Run just keeps getting better ever year,” Daniels said. “Raising €25,000 in one day is a tremendous achievement, and know it will go a long way to provide much needed support for families and individuals who need our help.

“A very big thank you to the sponsors, corporate partners and the team behind the event, well done to all,” she added.
