Aldi Süd Holding appoints Marcus Almeling as new CFO

Marcus Almeling will join Aldi Süd Holding as Group chief financial officer on November 1, 2024, bringing 23 years of experience in finance management.
In this position, Almeling will become part of the executive board of Aldi Süd KG, serving alongside Tom Daunt and Thomas Ziegler who remain as co-ceo’s and operational leads for the business.
Opening its doors
Aldi first opened in Dublin and Cork in 1999, marking its entry into the Irish market. Within the past 25 years, the retailer has expanded to 161 stores across every county in Ireland.
Significant milestones include launching the Specially Selected range in 2005, opening its 100th store in Callan, Kilkenny, in 2013, and introducing avocados in 2012.
Aldi has donated more than €25 million to charities and partnered with FoodCloud to reduce food waste, saving more than three million kg of CO2 emissions.
Aldi is also the largest retailer of Fairtrade tea in Ireland and has supported 330 Irish suppliers through its Grow with Aldi programme.
Recent innovations include launching oat milk and offering Surprise Bags to tackle food waste. The retailer’s store in Caherciveen, Co. Kerry, is the westernmost Aldi store in Europe.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Aldi has spent €10 billion with Irish suppliers since 1999.
