Aldi is planning to open a further seven stores across the country this year

Aldi Stores (Ireland) is planning to recruit 450 new employees nationwide in 2014, as it continues to expand its Irish store network.

In a press statement, the discounter said it has maintained its position as the fastest growing retailer in Ireland every month since July 2008, with 107 stores nationwide. Last September the retailer opened its second regional distribution centre in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork. Overall, it has grown grow year-on-year sales by over 22% to capture 8% of the Irish grocery market.

Opportunities are now available for area manager, store manager, assistant store manager and store assistant positions.

Commenting on the new roles, Niall O’Connor, managing director, Aldi Mitchelstown region, said the group is "opening a further seven stores in 2014" and is "seeking motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking individuals" to continue its growth.

According to the discounter, its area manager position provides candidates with the potential to work abroad or progress to a director position within five years. It provides a market leading rewards package including a starting salary of €61,000 rising to €92,000 over four years plus a fully expensed Audi A4.

A comprehensive induction and training programme is offered, including product knowledge, store operations, financial administration, logistics and property management.

Aldi currently employs around 2,400 people in Ireland, offering attractive pay scales. For example, successful store manager candidates will avail of a starting annual salary of €50,000 rising to €69,000 over four years for a five day 45-hour week. They will also receive five weeks’ paid holidays, private health insurance upon commencement and membership of a company pension scheme after three years.

O’Connor said Aldi’s average hourly rates are some 30% above the industry norm, and it has "one the highest staff satisfaction and retention rates in the industry, with many of our team still with us from our earliest days in Ireland".
