Alcohol prices down 0.8% in 2011

Alcohol prices overall were down by 0.9 per cent last December compared to the previous month and they were down 2.9 per cent on the period October to December 2011 compared with the previous three month period July to September according to CSO figures.

Over the course of the year alcohol prices fell by 0.8 per cent.

Off-trade prices for spirits and wine & cider fell by 7.1 per cent and 2.8 per cent respectively in December compared to November while beer prices were down 1.3 per cent. Over the course of the year prices were down 0.1 per cent for spirits, 2.6 per cent for wine & cider and 1.4 per cent for beer.

On-trade prices showed a 0.1 per cent decrease for both spirits and wine & cider in December with a price increase for the month recorded for soft drinks & mineral water of 0.1 per cent. Over the course of the year on-trade beer prices fell 0.5 per cent, on-trade spirits prices fell 0.2 per cent and both wine & cider and soft drinks & mineral water prices showed an 0.8 per cent decline.
