Aldi unveils plans to open new Shannon store
A planning application has been submitted to Clare County Council

Aldi has confirmed plans to open a new store in Shannon as part of its €160m Irish store network investment programme.
Expected to open in Quarter 1 2023, the new store will be located close to the town centre at Airport Road. A planning application for the 1,315 sqm store along with an additional retail unit has been submitted to Clare County Council.
In a press statement, Aldi said the new store would see “a substantial investment into the local area”, with up to 80 jobs being created during the construction period and 20 permanent positions to become available upon opening.
If permission is granted for the new store, it will be constructed in Aldi’s award-winning Project Fresh design and powered by 100% green electricity. There will be 106 car parking spaces available for customers along with bike parking facilities. The site will be professionally landscaped and feature a public seating area, as well as two free-to-use electric vehicle-charging points outside the store.
A spokesperson confirmed to ShelfLife that the group is currently awaiting a response from the council regarding whether planning permission has been granted.

“Aldi has a strong commitment to Co. Clare, operating four stores in the county,” he added. “Our new Shannon store will bring great value to the doorsteps of locals who previously had to travel to shop at Aldi.”
Aldi’s four Clare stores currently participate in its national partnership with FoodCloud, donating surplus food to local charities daily. “The Clare stores have donated almost 30,000 meals to charity to date,” Ward said. “Each store is also part of Aldi’s Community Grants network, with CYS The Youth Shack Café, Mid-West Simon Community, Killaloe Ballina Search & Rescue and Down Syndrome Ireland Clare Branch all availing of the bursary in recent times.”
