Tesco bake-off raises more than €110,000 in aid of Temple Street
A nationwide bake sale in Tesco stores has raised more than €110,000 in aid of Temple Street children's hospital. The much-needed funds have already been earmarked to go towards a new purchase of a specialised Ophthalmology YAG Laser, which is used to improve a patient’s vision after cataract surgery.

Tesco stores throughout Ireland came together on Friday April 5 for the Great Irish Bake in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital. In just one day of activity, Tesco colleagues prepared a vast range of sweet treats, cakes and pastries, which were then on show for customers to sample.
Geraldine Casey, People Director, Tesco Ireland, said all involved are thrilled to have completed another successful year of the Great Irish Bake for Temple Street. “Raising vital funds for our charity partner Temple Street is so important to everyone at Tesco Ireland,” Casey said, “and I would like to thank all Tesco colleagues and our customers nationwide who have donated to this worthy cause every year.”
Each year Temple Street treats over 145,000 children from across the country and operates the busiest A&E department in Europe. For thousands of children, Temple Street is the only hospital in Ireland they can be treated in. Through the charity partner programme, Tesco colleagues and customers can help sick kids from all over Ireland get better and be real life heroes to children attending the hospital. Recently extending its partnership with Temple Street, Tesco colleagues across the country are aiming to raise €5 million in five years, before the end of 2019.
Meanwhile, this year, the funds raised will help Temple Street purchase specialised Ophthalmology YAG Laser which is used to improve a patient’s vision after cataract surgery.
