Tesco’s biggest new store in almost a decade has opened its doors in Dublin’s Liffey Valley shopping centre. The Liffey Valley Tesco Extra Store follows a €30m investment by the company and has created a whopping 175 new jobs in the area.

The store covers a vast 60,000sq ft with 440 car parking spaces. It features a host of environmentally-friendly features such as built-in energy saving features in refigeration and power usage, advanced lighting, heating and cooling systems and state-of-the-art waste recycling facilities.

Tesco Ireland CEO Andrew Yaxley said the company is committed to ensuring its stores play a big part in the local communities in which it operates. “We are proud that the vast majority of the new roles at the Liffey Valley store are going to local people,” he said.

Doubling down on this promise, Tesco Extra Liffey Valley also announced plans for a regular donation of €1,000 to local good causes through the Tesco Community Fund. Liffey Valley Rangers FC, Quarryvale Community Centre and the Clondalkin Youth Band will be the first community groups to benefit.

The Tesco Community Fund has to date donated over €3 million to over 11,500 causes in Ireland.
