image003(2)This coming May Bank Holiday will see the retailer-based fundraising campaign One for Ireland take place across Ireland. The focus of this year’s campaign is youth mental health and is run by the Irish Youth Foundation.

One for Ireland is a very simple campaign. During the four-day campaign, retailers will ask shoppers to add €1 to their bill when purchasing items. A separate barcode will be scanned, with each individual €1 returned to One for Ireland at the end of the campaign.

During last year’s One for Ireland event, of which Irish golfing star Shane Lowry was a patron, almost €200,000 was raised for vital mental health services.

One for Ireland’s director Conor Clancy said last year’s campaign showed what was possible when retailers got behind a fundraising campaign. “It’s so important to us that the funds raised are used locally,” Clancy says, “and One for Ireland aims for 100% of all funds raised to go to charities in their local area.

“Just €1 can really make a difference,” he said. “It’s the retailers who will really drive this campaign.”
