Aldi Ireland today confirmed it will provide a total of €840,000 in support to leading youth development organisation Foróige over the course of its current three year partnership.  The announcement was made as Aldi unveiled the charities and not-for-profit organisations it will partner with in 2016 as part of its community support programme.

The retailer also confirmed the establishment of a network of more than 120 ‘Charity Champions’ in its stores nationwide to co-ordinate the programme at a local level, work closely with local charities and encourage Aldi staff involvement in initiatives.

Foróige works with over 56,000 young people (aged 10-18 years old) and 6,000 volunteers each year through a network of more than 600 youth clubs and cafes, 147 targeted projects such as the ‘Big Brother, Big Sister’ youth mentoring programme and national programmes such as ‘Citizenship, Entrepreneurship and Leadership’.

Charities, not-for-profit organisations and community groups at a local level will also benefit from Aldi’s community support programme in 2016 as individual Aldi stores and employees across the country will be able to nominate small local charities and community groups for funding throughout the year.

At a national level, The Irish Cancer Society, FoodCloud, WEEE Ireland and The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will be some of the other organisations that will benefit from Aldi’s programme through a combination of financial and food donations, sponsorship and staff participation and volunteering.

“We have established solid roots in the towns and cities our stores serve and are proud to support the charities and not-for-profit organisations that make a huge difference to these communities.” said Finbar McCarthy, group buying director, Aldi Ireland.

Foróige, Foodcloud, SVP and WEEE Ireland all feature in Aldi’s current ‘I buy it’ television campaign that highlights Aldi’s work and participation in local communities.
