Donnelly Fruit & Veg, in St Margaret’s Dublin, has announced it will be seeking up to 98 redundancies as a result of changes in its outsourcing arrangements with BWG Foods, one of its major customers.

The job losses are due to take effect from the end of April 2015.

The group, which employs 170 people, is subcontracted by BWG Foods to distribute chilled fresh foods to convenience stores across the country. However, BWG Foods plans to incorporate chilled distribution into its own national distribution centre by the end of April.

Ciaran Donnelly, managing director of Donnelly Fruit & Veg, said it was a difficult day for the company.

“We will be working closely with our employees over the next number of months and we will be putting in place an outplacement programme,” he said.

He added that there may be some opportunities for redeployment into its sister companies, Wonderfoods and Glan Arís, and also that there may be job opportunities opening up at BWG’s national distribution centre at Kilcarbery, Clondalkin.

Donnelly Fruit & Veg supplies a number of other major retailers, including Aldi and the Musgrave Group.
