With regret, in response to the increase in Covid-19 hospitalisations, ShelfLife publisher John McDonald has formally announced the postponement of the 2021 ShelfLife National C-Store Awards. Due to be held later this month on 24 November, the awards ceremony will now be held on a later date to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Announcing the decision, McDonald issued the following statement:

“The judging for the 2021 ShelfLife National C-Store Awards has been completed, the trophies have been ordered and Marty Whelan has had his tuxedo pressed!

“I apologise for spoiling the plans of all those who had planned to attend as I am formally announcing a postponement of next week’s event.

“As you know, the current upward trend in Covid-19 hospitalisations has led to uncertainty about how the country will adjust in terms of public health issues in the run up to Christmas and the new year and the last thing that we want is another lockdown. The team at ShelfLife has been paying close attention to these developments, and consulting with key sponsors, participants and supporters of the awards programme.

“Although we have all been looking forward to a great night out, the safe and right thing to do is to run the event at a later date when the Covid-19 outbreak is less prevalent.

“We know how hard everybody has worked on this year’s awards programme, especially the retailers on the shortlist, our judging panel and the team at ShelfLife and I am very sorry to spoil the fun at this short notice.

“There will be a time when we can run the awards event without concern and we will announce a new date as soon as practicable.

“Thanks again for all your support.”
