Reckon you have the culinary kudos to know your Pappardelle from your Pelmini and your Maki from your Temaki? Well, now you have a chance to find out, with a quiz that promises to put your food knowledge fully to the test – and all for a good cause.

On Saturday, 6 May, ‘The Great Irish Food Quiz ON THE FARM’ will be held at Maperath Farm in Kells, Co. Meath, to raise funds for Down Syndrome Ireland.

The quiz has been a popular fixture on foodie calendars for almost 10 years now, run by chef Áine Maguire of The Idle Wall in Westport, Co. Mayo. Mostly held in Dublin and sometimes in her native Westport, this time it’s moving to Maperath Farm in Kells to be hosted by Olivia Duff of the Headfort Arms Hotel and her husband Eoin Sharkey.

Olivia and Eoin will open their turkey barn to food lovers who will enjoy an evening of trivia, tastings and tipples! Maperath Farm which features next week on ‘Big Week on the Farm’  on RTE is well-known for its free range turkeys and goose at Christmas.

Áine and Olivia are both Fáilte Ireland Food Champions and have decided to collaborate for this event, which is part of The Boyne Valley Food Series, run by Olivia and a hardworking team of local producers.

Kevin Sheridan of Sheridan’s Cheesemongers will be quiz master on the night and some of Ireland’s Food Champions will also head to Kells to help out, with Jacinta Dalton of GMIT on registration and Patrick Ryan from the Firehouse Bakery in Delgany lighting the coals of the Wood Fired Oven on the farm

As with all the food quizzes, the objective of the night of course is to raise funds for charity.  Down Syndrome Ireland is the chosen charity and all proceeds on the night going directly to the organisation. There will also be super raffle items, including weekends away, lovely dinner treats and of course in fitting with the surroundings you could win your Christmas Dinner from the Maperath Farm!

This competitive quiz offers impressive prizes for the victors, so why not brush up on your food knowledge and get booking as follows:
