On-demand, employment service, WrkWrk is aiming to fill 250,000 shift hours in 2025, following the launch of their enhanced and extended service.

Previously WrkWrk had primarily focused on hospitality, but it will now be scaled to cover a broader range of sectors. These include healthcare, retail, manufacturing and customer service, as well as hospitality.

This means that employers will now be able to source healthcare assistants, retail assistants, customer service personnel, hotel workers and bar staff in a matter of minutes from their computer or smartphone.

On demand workers

In one example from last year, WrkWrk was able to provide on demand workers for an employer who had 200 separate, open positions within 30 minutes.

The expansion of the service follows the successful results WrkWrk recorded during their pilot phase focusing on the hospitality sector.

During that early stage of its development, WrkWrk managed to fill approximately 19,000 shifts in 2023, delivering more than 115,000 on-demand hours last year.

WrkWrk is designed to make the process of sourcing on-demand workers as simple as possible.

Businesses just have to provide the date, time, location and number of staff required and WrkWrk takes care of the rest.

All temporary workers provided by WrkWrk are vetted, interviewed and trained to ensure they meet performance and reliability standards. More than 5,000 are already listed on the platform.

How it works

When an employer posts a new shift vacancy, the platform matches it to workers with the relevant skill sets and they are alerted to the potential opening.

This provides flexibility to both employers and workers, with employers only hiring when they need to and workers only opting in to the shifts they wish to take.

Employers are then provided with real time updates so they can see as their shifts are filled with suitable candidates, helping to ensure they are never left short staffed.

The WrkWrk portal can also be used by employers to communicate directly with the staff assigned to their shifts.

While the service had previously been exclusively delivered through a smartphone app, as part of their scaling measures, a web-based platform is now also available for employers.

The platform supports video interviews, used during the worker onboarding process.

The enhanced IT infrastructure includes a 100% serverless platform, designed for scaled flexibility.

It is using AWS database, authentication, Lambda and security services and also incorporates AI elements.

It is also Web 3.0 ready and incorporates is a multi-layered security design pattern to deliver best in class data protection.

WrkWrk is part of FRS Co-Op, the Irish, multimillion euro social enterprise co-operative.

“This means that employers in healthcare, retail, customer service, manufacturing and hospitality will be able to fill vacant shifts faster than Oasis sell tickets,” said Lynne McCormack, general manager, WrkWrk.

Organisations in these sectors can now source healthcare assistants, retail assistants, customer service personnel, hotel workers, bar staff, waiting staff and more in a matter of minutes.

Hiring hack

“Effectively, WrkWrk is a hiring hack for employers and flexible workers alike. We offer flexibility. Employers can hire on-demand when they have a need, while our workers can decide to take the shifts they want.”

As most employers know, normally hiring takes time including advertising vacancies, followed by vetting and interviewing potential hires.

More time is then needed for communicating with these new personnel as well as to manage and train them.

WrkWrk takes the hassle out of hiring by taking care of all these tasks. Our on-demand workers are already vetted and trained, meaning they are ready to work immediately.

“The benefits of this are extensive. We’ve had employers post an opening just before lunch, go out to get a bite to eat and then have their on-demand vacancies filled by the time they are back at their desk. In a real time world, we provide on-demand workers in real time.”

McCormack notes that WrkWrk’s enhanced platform has been designed to be further scalable, which she hopes will allow them to reach even more sectors and even more markets in the near future.
