Wine prices up 9.7% in off-trade

Off-trade wine prices increased by 9.7% over the year to the end of March 2013 and they increased by  2.7% in the on-trade.

Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco prices in the off-trade remained stable in March 2013 compared to February according to CSO figures while they were up 4.8% in the year compared to a 3.9% increase for the year to March 2012.

They were up 5.8% in the three months January to March compared to the previous three-month period while off-trade alcohol prices fell by 0.1% in March compared to February but were up 7.3% over the 12-month period.

Monthly off-trade price decreases were recorded for beer of 1.7% and spirits of 3.3% while wine prices increased 2.0%. Annual price increases were recorded for beer (3.1%), spirits (6.5%) and wine (9.7%).

Prices in licensed premises rose 3.4% in the 12-month period with the CSO recording price increases for spirits of 3.3%, wine (2.7%), beer (3.8%) and soft drinks & mineral waters of 1.5%.

A price increase of 0.1% was recorded in the month of March over February for licensed premises generally and a similar percentage increase figure for spirits and soft drinks & mineral waters. Wine and beer prices remained unchanged during this time.

Overall alcohol prices remained stable in March compared to February but were 4.8% up in the year and 4.3% up in the three months January to March.

Prices for admission to nightclubs fell by 4.4% in the year to March and by 2.2% on the February figure.
