Whiskey Bible awards for Powers & Jameson
Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard is celebrating having been awarded the Irish Whiskey of the Year and Irish Blend of the Year by leading whiskey writer Jim Murray in his 2012 Whisky Bible.
10 November 2011
After tasting more than 1,500 whiskies from around the world to complete the 2012 edition of the Whisky Bible, Murray named the newly-launched Powers John’s Lane Release his Irish Whiskey of the Year, describing it as “pot still at its most embracing and magnificent” and “certainly one of the top five world whiskies of the year”.
Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve was named Irish Blend of the Year with Jm Murray quoted as saying it was “the crispest, cleanest, most beautifully defined of all the Jameson family – a truly great whiskey, among the pantheon of the world’s finest”.
Anna Malmhake, Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard’s new Chief Executive, commented, “It is wonderful to see that our dedicated team of Masters at the Midleton Distillery is being recognised for their incredible skill and dedication. In particular, praise for Powers John’s Lane Release, a single pot still whiskey launched this year as part of our initiative to rejuvenate this exceptional style to its former glory, is very welcome. Such recognition can only compliment our efforts to attract more and more whiskey-lovers to this unique style.”
