Webb Group welcomes new chief executive and chairman
Home entertainment company, The Webb Group has appointed Joe McNicholas as new chief executive, and James Browning as non-executive chairman.

Home entertainment company, The Webb Group has appointed a new chairman and chief executive. The group currently supplies an extensive range of DVDs, Blu-ray, music, games and gifts to more than 4,500 retail outlets across the UK and Ireland, and to 2.7 million customers directly.
Joe McNicholas has been promoted to chief executive in recognition of his performance as The Webb Group’s commercial director, while James Browning, managing director of mobile phone distribution firm 20:20 Mobile Ltd becomes non-executive chairman of The Webb Group.
As Group commercial director, Joe has helped guide The Webb Group through its recent successes, having joined in 2007 as part of the company’s acquisition of Choices UK, where he had been product director. His extensive senior management experience in the home entertainment industry also includes spells as head of product at Virgin Retail Ltd and as regional manager for Our Price.
Telecommunications and home entertainment specialist James Browning has been UK managing director of 20:20 Mobile Ltd and its subsidiary company Dextra Solutions for the last two years. Previously, James was chief executive of wholesale and distribution firm Total Home Entertainment.
New members appointed to safefood Advisory Committee
Safefood, the all-island agency promoting food safety and healthy eating has announced the appointment of seven new members to its Advisory Committee. The new members are Prof Martin Caraher, Professor of Food Policy, London City University; Mr Kenneth Carroll, managing director, Carroll Food Services; Dr Moira Dean, lecturer, Queen’s University Belfast; Mr Robert Huey, deputy chief veterinary officer, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; Ms Maria Jennings, deputy director, Food Standards Agency Northern Ireland; Ms Tina Leonard, freelance journalist and Ms Amanda McCloat, head of Home Economics Dept, St Angela’s College, Sligo.
The safefood Advisory Committee is comprised of thirteen experts from a range of research, academic, public health, education, consumer representation, regulatory and food industry backgrounds providing a balance of expertise across the key disciplines involved in food safety, healthy eating, consumer behaviour and food and health communications. Appointed by the North/South Ministerial Council, the Advisory Committee advises safefood’s chief executive, Mr. Martin Higgins.
