The 2010 National TidyTowns Competition was launched on 31 March in St Stephens Green, Dublin. The competition, which is sponsored by SuperValu, is one of the world’s longest running environmental initiatives, it is now in its 52nd year and the focus for 2010 is on volunteerism. TidyTowns is an ideal forum for people to get involved in improving their local community and the Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government, who organise the competition, and the main sponsors, SuperValu are asking people to ‘dig-in’ to help out in their local community for even one hour in the coming months. A list of TidyTowns Committees looking for volunteers is available on www.volunteeringireland.com or from the TidyTowns unit in the department.

The closing date for receipt of entries for this year’s competition is 24 May. Entry forms can be obtained from the TidyTowns Unit in the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government by phoning or visiting (053)9117347  www.tidytowns.ie.
