Last year 354,915 guests visited the Irish Distillers-owned facilities, up from 302,472 in 2011.

108,298 visitors passed through the doors of the Jameson Experience in Cork, compared with 86,348 in 2011, an increase of 25%, while the Old Jameson Distillery accommodated 246,617 guests, a 14% increase from the 216,124 visitors recorded in 2011.

John Callely, Managing Director of Watercourse Distillery which operates both facilities, said that the increased visitor numbers reflects an increase in the number of tourists visiting the country and also the continued growth in the global popularity of Jameson Whiskey.

“We are hoping to break more records in 2013 as we look ahead to the year of The Gathering,” he added.

43% of visitors on average for both sites hail from the US while tourists from Germany account for 13%, France 10% and both Spain/Portugal and Britain 7% respectively. Irish tourists made up 9% of the total. The percentage of Irish visitors was slightly higher in the Cork facility.

As seen in recent years, the second half of the calendar year was especially successful, with 194,425 people visiting both visitor centres between 1st July and 31st December 2012 compared to 160,490 visitors in the first six months of the year, a differential of 21%.
