The C-Store Awards 2010
ShelfLife's annual awards ceremony highlights the convenience store retailers who have excelled in delivering a first-class offering throughout 2010
18 January 2011
The annual C- Store awards took place on 1 December in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire. The night was very nearly put in jeopardy due to the awful cold spell that descended on the country in early December but despite this a large crowd turned out and a great night was had.
Scally’s Centra in Tullamore was named as the overall platinum winner and National Convenience Store of the Year 2010. This store stood out for the judges due to its extremely high standards of food hygiene, a competitive pricing policy and the very personal touch that is extended by the staff to all customers. Ease of access and free parking were also contributing factors.
Other winners on the night were Tobin’s Gala/Topaz store in Letterkenny who won the Gold Award for stores in the less than 2,000 sq ft category. The judges were impressed with the store’s overall level of product presentation, price promotion and personal service.
Morton’s of Ranelagh, won the Gold Award in the 4,000 to 8,000 sq ft category. For three generations Mortons has been a landmark store in the Dublin suburb of Ranelagh. The range of fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, deli and wine made it stand out from the competition.
The Forecourt of the Year Award was presented to Maxol/Mace Clonakilty, Co. Cork. Of this outlet the judges said: “This expansive forecourt was opened last March and has rapidly become a destination shop for truckers and motorists alike. Dedicated parking, full wash facilities and a large Mace store with seating for 40 make it a forecourt for the future!”
The ShelfLife C-Store Awards were set up to recognise retailers and retail outlets that set the highest standards in the retail industry. Irish c-store retailers have invested millions of euros building and running fantastic stores in every corner of Ireland. Now, more than ever these people deserve to be supported and congratulated for the services they provide. The tenth C-Store Awards were sponsored by Cuisine de France, The Irish Daily Star and Kelloggs and presented by distinguised MC, Marty Whelan.
