Based on most recent global turnover figures, Tesco is poised to overtake Carrefour as the world’s second biggest retailer within the next four years. According to the report on global retailing by IGD, this would make Tesco second only to Wal-Mart, and just ahead of the French retailer.

IGD’s findings suggest that Tesco’s growth will accelerate beyond that of the hypermarket chain, forecasting a compound annual growth rate of 11% for Tesco, compared with 7% for Carrefour between 2007 and 2012.
