Tesco opens New St James Gate express store in Dublin 8
9 December 2024
Tesco has opened its newest store in Dublin 8, close to the world-famous Guinness Storehouse. The St James Gate Express store is set in the new Grand Canal Harbour Development and brings to 181 the total number of stores the retailer has across Ireland.
Store manager Naveen Kunta leads a team of 14 new colleagues, some of whom helped cut the ribbon at the official opening this morning.
Customers and colleagues were also joined by newly elected local TD Maire Devine for all the festive celebrations.
Community groups
Three local community groups will benefit from the Tesco Community Fund which aims to make a positive impact in the areas served by the store.
These groups include The Solas Project, Little Flower Penny Dinners and St James Primary School.
The new store will offer an extensive selection of groceries, fresh produce, and household essentials, along with an in-store bakery, coffee station and DRS machine.
Job opportunities
“Opening our new Tesco St James Gate Express marks our 11th new store since January, and the 14 roles we’ve created here join the more than 265 new jobs we’ve created nationwide as part of our store expansion programme this year alone,” said Geoff Byrne, chief operating officer, Tesco Ireland.
Store manager Naveen Kunta added: “My team and I are thrilled to open this fantastic new store in a richly vibrant part of the city. We have worked day and night to prepare for this opening, and we can’t wait to welcome in and get to know our customers.”
Through our food surplus redistribution programme, partners like FoodCloud and OLIO Food Waste Heroes will ensure that no good food goes to waste.
Additionally, the Tesco St James Gate Express team will continue to support our charity partner, Children’s Health Foundation, which aids sick children in CHI at Crumlin, Connolly, Temple St, and Tallaght hospitals.
