The Irish Grocers Benevolent Fund (IGBF) has lined up an exciting calendar of events for the year ahead, with the aim of raising funds to provide financial relief to those who have been involved in the retail, wholesale and supplier trade sectors.

First up, the Mid-West Region of the IGBF is holding its Black Tie Ball on Saturday, 26 March, at the Castletroy Park Hotel, Limerick

The ball is the major fundraising activity of the mid-west region’s year and all proceeds will go directly to support the less fortunate members within the grocery trade. There will be fantastic spot prizes on the night with music provided by ‘One September’.

Tickets are €125 per head and are available from the following members of the Mid-West Region committee: James Johnson (Dunnes Stores, Tipperary Town); Eamonn Scanlon (JTI Ireland); Kevin Ronan; Pat Reale (Largo Foods); Robert Crowley (Britvic); Niall O’Brien (Dunnes Stores, Shannon); Nigel Davey (Molson Coors Ireland) and Colin Kenny (Diageo).

The reservation department at the Castletroy Park Hotel will be glad to assist you in making bedroom bookings (+353 61 335566) the confirmed rate is €.80 per room, which includes a full Irish breakfast.

Meanwhile, the IGBF Dublin Annual Golf Outing is coming up on Thursday, 26 May, to be held at the Palmerstown Stud & Golf Club, Johnstown, Co. Kildare. The event is building on the success of last year, which raised in excess of €57,700 for the fund.

Once again, the competition this year will be a four-person scramble format with a shot gun start at 8.30am and 2.30pm. Please book early to get your tee time preference.

The cost for a team of four is €1,500 (no change) and for this you will get the following:

  • Four players per team
  • Breakfast for morning starters from 7.15am
  • Light Lunch for all from 12.30pm
  • Dinner for all at 8.30 sharp
  • Goodie bag for all players
  • Full use of the club including
    • Driving Range
    • Practice area
    • Sauna / steam room facilities
  • Golf master class hosted by Ex Irish European Tour Professional Gary Murphy
  • There will be the following competitions on the day.
    • Beat the pro on the 10th to win a full set of clubs worth €1,200 sponsored by Spick’n’Span
    • Longest drive
    • Nearest the pin on all par three holes
    • Entry to team event to win the Tim Nolan Perpetual trophy.

The association added: “In our current climate all of us know how hard it is to find funds to support such events but during these hard times the demands on the fund are even greater than normal so your support will be very much appreciated.”
