Superquinn confirmed that its store in Naas Co. Kildare will close on 4 February. Th company said that the  “regrettable decision arises due to the expiry of the lease on the premises and the landlord’s wish to take possession of the store”. The lease is owned by Primark who intend to open a Penneys on the site in the near future.

Superquinn had intended to open a store on an alternative site in Naas prior to the expiry of the current lease but, as a result of current problems in the property market, development of this site is on hold for the time being.

A 30 day consultation period has commenced between the company and its employees and with their trade unions. To minimise job losses, Superquinn will be offering affected colleagues the opportunity to redeploy within the company where possible. However the nearest stores are in Dublin and Carlow so would be too far for many to travel for work each day.
