Ireland’s biggest commercial grower Keelings has announced it can now make fresh strawberries available until December.

The fruit and veg producer has extended its strawberry harvesting season through use of its new state-of-the-art glasshouses in St Margaret’s Co Dublin, making it the only strawberry farm in the country that will produce Irish strawberries right up to December.

A recent study carried out by Bord Bia found that seven out of 10 shoppers prefer to buy local food, with 93% doing so in order to support the local economy.

Keelings believes Irish consumers will be happy to have an Irish option for buying strawberries beyond the normal season in Ireland, and the Irish strawberries will also be fresher and will taste better as they are local.
