Logistics supply chain solutions specialist, STL Group has announced a multi-million euro deal that will see the Limerick-based company take delivery of 43 high-efficiency Scania Euro trucks as part of its expanding fleet.

The deal, valued at almost €5 million, was brokered between STL Logistics, part of the STL Group and Westward Scania – with the support of local Scania dealer Nolan’s of Castleisland.

STL Group, one of Ireland’s leading third-party logistics providers, already has more than 100 vehicles providing transport and delivery services to more than 200 companies including Diageo, Weetabix, Ballygowan Britvic, the Kerry Group and GlaxoSmithKline. STL operates in Ireland, the UK and Europe and works mainly with companies in the food and drinks, electronics, medical and packaging sectors with particular expertise in the FMCG category.

“This is a significant investment for us and one that underscores our commitment to continuous improvement at every level of the business,” said Michael O’Riordan, chief executive of Shannon Transport Group.

With its own service platform, DoE testing unit and a dedicated team of traffic schedulers, STL Logistics is part of the ChillNet group which offers a European ambient chilled and frozen distribution service including daily delivery to the UK. The company’s 100-strong fleet travels an average of 25,000 miles per day, with O’Riordan asserting: “Business has been good this year and we are confident that the upturn will continue into next year and beyond.”
