As part of the year-long 60th anniversary celebrations, Spar has joined forces with the Thomas Ennis Group, who have a number of award-winning Spar stores in Dublin City Centre, to open a pop-up shop at Johnson Place in Dublin 2.

The doors opened on 8 June with the innovative new store taking just two weeks to build. The new business venture represents an innovative approach to business development as it provides a short term viable commercial venture in an unused premises, coupled with the ability to get up and running in a very short lead-in time.

The fitout of the store was expedited through taking a plug and play approach facilitating the retailer to set up quickly while promoting an ethos of recycling and eco consciousness.

The new store further provides a vehicle to help beautify the city centre by occupying a previously empty store façade. The external fascia of the store is a replica of the original 1963 Spar sign, while inside the store has been fitted out with a retro theme complete with throwbacks to Spar’s origins including a collage mural of 1960s imagery alongside vinyl records and pop-art as part of the store décor.

As witnessed many times over the past six decades, this venture is very much in keeping with Spar and BWG Foods’ heritage in championing the entrepreneurial spirit of their independent retailers and this pop-up store is an example of retailing innovation at its finest.
