Spar supports Make-A-Wish in celebrating mothers this Wish Week
Spar and Make-A-Wish are asking people to help make wishes come true for seriously ill children

Make-A-Wish is appealing to the public to come behind its campaign to celebrate mums this Wish Week, March 8 to 14.
Culminating on Mother’s Day, Wish Week is a plea to the public to help bring joy to seriously ill children and their families across Ireland by making a donation.
Last year, Make-A-Wish Ireland experienced significant disruption to both their fundraising activities and their ability to grant wishes due to the Covid-19 restrictions. Despite these obstacles however, they managed to grant 56 wishes to children across the country who are living with life-threatening illnesses. These wishes ranged from having a garden play tower, to virtually meeting a favourite celebrity, to having a gaming laptop.
Supported by Spar, Wish Week was designed to help spread some joy to those most in need of a lift. To date, SPAR Ireland has already donated more than €240,000 to Make-A-Wish over the course of its official charity partnership.
“Unfortunately, there are now more than 200 seriously ill children throughout the country, who are anxiously waiting for their wishes to be granted,” said Colin Donnelly, sales director, SPAR. “As Make-A-Wish does not receive any government funding, Spar is joining with them to ask the public to donate what they can to help make those magical wishes come true. Spar is proud to have Make-A-Wish as our official charity partner and we are supporting the fundraiser through a social media and in-store campaign, as well as through donations from the sale of a selected range of Spar own brand products.”
Susan O’Dwyer, chief executive of Make-A-Wish Ireland, said: “Our wish mums inspire us everyday with their strength and hope and as Wish Week takes place in the run up to Mother’s Day, we wanted to share some of our incredible wish stories, through the eyes of these parents. Over the past year, we have all come to recognise the importance of hope in helping us to endure life’s challenges. Our wish families know that better than anyone. That’s why we are committed to granting the wish of every eligible child, giving them the hope of magical moments and lasting happy memories. But we can’t do it without the help of our supporters, volunteers, partners and the general public.”
