Savings remain top priority for consumers in Q2
35% of Irish consumers continued to place savings as top priority for their spare cash in the second quarter of this year according to Nielsen’s Consumer Confidence report Q2 – concerns and spending intentions as ‘Out-Of-Home Entertainment’ witnessed a 3% fall to just 15% preference in this survey when compared to Quarter 1.

And if they were given an extra 10% allocation onto their monthly budget, over one in four (26%) would continue to place this in savings/investments but ‘Recreation and entertainment’ garnered 9% of responses here.
When asked to compare their lifestyle spending behaviour in this Quarter with Quarter 1 in 2013, 62% had cut down on Out Of Home Entertainment, up 3%. This was only bettered by the 69% who were spending less on new clothes (also up 3%).
When asked, “When economic conditions improve, which of these savings do you expect you will continue to do?” a quarter (24%) answered that they’d continue cutting down on Out Of Home Entertainment (a rise of 3%) while 18% would stay with cutting down or buying cheaper brands of alcohol (a drop of 2%).
