Sale of Alcohol Bill kicked into 2012

The Sale of Alcohol Bill has now been kicked into 2012 by the Government which had originally planned to publish it this Autumn. It does not appear on the present Government Schedule of Bills to the end of the year.

Meanwhile the widely-awaited Report of the Strategic Task Force on Substance Misuse, due in the next month or so, is likely to have some words proposing a social levy on all retailers of alcohol which has been described as a ‘disaster’ by the industry.

The Report is also likely to contain references to marketing freedoms, sponsorships, ads and  watersheds etc which will need to be scrutinised carefully.
