Darren Geraghty of the Exchequer Bar in Dublin claimed the title Pilsner Urquell Irish Master Bartender at the finals which took place recently in O’Connells Bar, Eyre Square, Galway. Darren emerged from 16 finalists to go forward to represent Ireland in the Pilsner Urquell International Master Bartender competition to be held in Pilsen, the home of Pilsner Urquell, in the Czech Republic on October 15th.
Now in its fifth year, the Master Bartender competition sees 4,000 bartenders from 19 countries competing for the title. Petr Dvorak, Global Brand Director for Pilsner Urquell, said, “The pure Pilsner from Pilsen deserves to be handled and served with care and dedication and all our bartenders have excelled themselves on that front. Each year, we are pleasantly surprised by the standards we see and remain committed to ensuring this professionalism is given the necessary rewards.”
To qualify for the Irish final, entrants had to undergo a two-part test challenging them on their in-depth Pilsner Urquell knowledge. At the national final the bartenders were tasked with demonstrating the perfect Pilsner Urquell pour. The finalists also underwent an intensive interview and challenging written exam.
