Philadelphia ‘cook-off’
11 November 2008
A Philadelphia ‘cook-off’ in association with Kitchen World, took place recently at the Blanchardstown Centre in Dublin 15. The special event was greatly anticipated by the twelve finalists chosen from hundreds of entries to participate. The final twelve had to prepare a dish at the live final on the basis of the tastiest original dish created from the finalist’s choice of a set range of ingredients including Philly.
The promotion started 2 July with an on pack competition on Regular, Light & Garlic and Herb Philadelphia when entrants had to complete the following line in no more than 10 words “I like cooking with Philadelphia because …….” Their witty response could be sent via SMS and online entry. Philadelphia also placed POS in store including motion-activated devices in top stores which caused a great stir. In the end three winners Avril Copithorn (Cork), Joan Healy (Cork) and Siobhan Clarke (Dublin) were selected for their innovation and ability to create a tasty dish including Philadelphia.
Each winner has won a new dream kitchen worth €5,800 courtesy of Philadelphia and Kitchen World. The judging panel included Eunice Power, celebrity chef and owner of Powersfield Cookery School Dungarven, Jillian Bolger, food writer with Sunday Tribune and Daphne Deacon, Kraft Foods. The winning recipes chosen were Baked Pears with Philly by Avril Copithorn, Aw’Philly Good Cod by Joan Healy and Lemon Sole by Siobhan Clarke and each of the recipes will be published on the website. The new website has over 450 recipes that are tasty and easy to prepare.
