Customers and music fans in Lower Abbey Street were in for a treat last week on Thursday, 18 June, when well-known Dublin band Keywest took part in a surprise performance to officially open the new Spar retail store on Lower Abbey Street.

The live session, which took place from 12:30pm – 2pm was the grand finale of an action packed three days of festivities to mark the store’s official opening.

Customers who are members of the My Spar Rewards Club were able to participate in the ‘Grab a Grand’ competition which ran throughout the day and gave customers a chance to walk away with up to €1,000.

The National Children’s Hospital, Tallaght were also winners on the day after Keywest lead guitarist, James Lock grabbed them €670 in the ‘Grab a Grand’ competition.

Speaking at the opening, Alan Dickenson, Spar Lower Abbey Street retailer, said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming customers into Spar Lower Abbey Street. This is an exciting time for us and we are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase all that the store has to offer.”

Spar Lower Abbey Street’s in-store offering includes a Spar Tasty Deli with seating area, Insomnia Barista, fresh fruit and veg and an extensive range of grocery and ambient offerings.

Willie O’Byrne, managing director, BWG Foods said: “I would like to officially welcome Alan and all the team at Spar Lower Abbey Street to the Spar family. The store has a lot of fantastic offerings which will no doubt bring about a very strong customer loyalty base.”

Spar Lower Abbey Street employs 24 staff from the local area and is open from 6.30am – 8pm, Monday to Friday, 8am – 8pm on Saturdays and from 10am to 7pm on Sundays.
