Off-trade alcohol prices up 8%
The price of alcohol in off-licences rose by 8.0% in October compared with prices in October 2012 as measured by the CPI.

This comprised an increase in the price of Spirits and Wine of 9.3% while Beer prices were up 5.0%.
Compared to the previous month, September, off-trade alcohol prices in October were up 0.6% comprising Spirits (up 1.5%), Wine (up 1.3%) and Beer (down 1.1%).
The higher off-licence and supermarket alcohol prices – combined with higher prices for tobacco – led to a rise in Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco prices overall, stated the CSO which noted that prices generally rose 0.1% last October compared with October 2012.
Prices in Licensed Premises rose 2.2% in the year to the end of October. This comprised price increases in Spirits (3.1%), Wine (3.2%), Beer (3.7%) and Soft Drinks & Mineral Water (1.5%).
Prices in Restaurants & Hotels increased mainly due to higher prices for alcohol consumed on licensed premises.
Comparing the October figure to the previous month, September, Licensed Premises prices flatlined while Spirits prices decreased 0.1% and Wine prices increased by the same percentage.
Admission prices to Nightclubs decreased by 1.8% in the year and by 0.6% compared to September.
