Oddbins Dublin stores close

The administrator for British Off-licence chain Oddbins has closed its four remaining Dublin outlets. Deloitte recently shut down the Clontarf, Churchtown, Blackrock and Baggot Street stores.

The other stores in Dublin city centre and Blanchardstown closed down earlier this year following the UK chain’s going into administration last April (owing the UK Customs and Excise some €9.15 million).

The city centre outlet has since reopened as Baggot Street Wines, managed by former manager Garret Connolly. The group closed its store in Blanchardstown earlier this year.

Some 37 of the UK stores were purchased from the administrator by another company, European Food Broker, which now runs them.

Others were sold to individual buyers including a number of them to Simon Baile, the former owner of the Oddbins chain.
Oddbins follows such chains as Threshers and Wine Cellar in closing their doors over the past two years as the pressure mounts from supermarkets selling below-cost.
