The National Consumer Agency (NCA) has published its consumer protection list for the first half of this year. The consumer protection list records the enforcement actions taken by the NCA under the Consumer Protection Act and other consumer legislation.

Tesco, Dunnes, Centra, Eurospar and SuperValu were among the 18 retailers issued with compliance notices because they charged consumers more than the price indicated at specific stores. Of the 18 stores, 10 were in Dublin while there was one each in Meath, Westmeath, Louth, Clare, Galway, Wicklow, Wexford and Sligo.

28 other SuperValu, Costcutter, Londis, Tesco, Dunnes, Lidl and Eurospar outlets were issued with fixed payment notices over failure to display prices in store. NCA chief executive Karen O’Leary said the association was committed to using its legislative powers "to address unfair practices in the most appropriate and effective way".

The NCA had also been pursuing investigations into the sale of clocked cars and in June secured a conviction against a Cork car dealer, Damian Hayes Car Sales in Kanturk, and, in the process, obtained a compensation order of €1,750 for the consumer.
