“National Black Pudding Day” is coming

Hugh Maguire aka "the Smokin’ Butcher" has teamed up with Irish food legend Darina Allen for a nationwide promotion on Sunday, 3 November. National Black Pudding Day will celebrate the craft behind this most Irish of meat products.

The Smokin’ Butcher, Hugh Maguire and Ballymaloe’s Darina Allen have teamed up to launch National Black Pudding Day, which will take place this coming Sunday, 3 November 2019.  The event will celebrate the craft behind traditional Irish black pudding, which has enjoyed a huge revival in recent years. The event also presents an opportunity to share delicious and diverse black pudding recipes.

As part of the Samhain Festival in Kells, Co. Meath, on 3 November, Maguire and Allen will co-host a Black Pudding Masterclass. Guests at the Masterclass will see the traditional art of combining pig’s blood with oats and seasonings to create the much-loved, authentic black pudding, whilst enjoying foodie insights and tips. Tickets are priced at €10 and are available from Hinterland.ie

As part of National Black Pudding Day, Hugh and Darina will be sharing delicious recipes and encouraging home cooks to share their favourite black pudding serving suggestions and recipes #NationalBlackPuddingDay.

“I’ve always been a huge supporter of craft butchery,” says Darina Allen, “and I think that black pudding is one of our most treasured, traditional Irish products.

“I’m delighted to be joining forces with Hugh to celebrate National Black Pudding Day,” she added, “and am excited to discover lots of new recipes and ways to enjoy black pudding at home.”
