Mr.Price has once again been recognised for its ongoing work to advance equality for those with disabilities; by winning the Advancing Disability Equality Award at the National Diversity & Inclusion Awards 2023, held at Dublin’s Croke Park on Thursday, 2 February.

Impressively, this is the company’s second award in five months within this area.

A spokesperson for Mr.Price told ShelfLife: “This was the National Diversity Inclusion Awards’ (NDIA’s) first awards ceremony with finalists across several sectors. Mr.Price is the first ever retailer to win such a prestigious award. This award would not have been possible without our partnership with Rehab Group and National Learning Network. The partnership ensures action is taken to change the job landscape.”

The overarching aim of the partnership between Mr.Price and Rehab Group alongside National Learning Network is to increase employment rates of people with disabilities in every county.

In Ireland, a person with a disability is just over half as likely to be employed as a non-disabled peer, according to a study published by IBEC. Ireland’s rate of employment amongst people with disabilities the fourth lowest in Europe.

“Mr.Price are innovative change-makers in the recruitment sector,” said Edel McSorley, operations director for Mr.Price.

“Our partnership with Rehab Group and National Learning Network is pragmatic and impact orientated,” she added.

“Our team all across our 63 stores, head office and distribution centre are leading this change for the better ensuring inclusion diversity and equality are at the heart of their teams. The rights-based approach to the inclusive employment.”

The partnership is measured in real job outcomes where people with disabilities get paid employment.

Since the partnership began over 70 people with disabilities have been hired. 47 staff have participated in training to promote disability inclusive practices during the hiring process, on-boarding process and ensuring in-work supports. Rehab Group and Mr. Price are developing practice leaders in disability inclusion in the workplace.

In a video which can be viewed online, two ex-students talk about the positive impact on their health and wellbeing in getting jobs. “It is an honour to have won our second award in this space in five months. The Mr.Price team across Ireland will continually strive for a better job landscape for future employment,” McSorley added.

“With 63 stores nationwide and growing, we believe Mr.Price and The Rehab Group have a real opportunity to encourage change and break stigmas.”
