Maxol Castletroy, one of Limerick’s landmark service stations, unveiled a brand new look on Thursday, 10 December, following a major renovation. The extensive makeover includes a vibrant new image for the Maxol station and Centra convenience store; a new double bay drive-through car wash centre, new fuel pumps and underground storage tanks and improved customer car parking.

The Maxol Group purchased Chawke’s, close to the Kilmurry Roundabout at the Dublin Road, in April of this year and has since invested a significant sum in improving the facilities of the popular location.

Tom Duggan, who has managed the Castletroy business since 2000 and is the Maxol licensee, said he couldn’t wait to show the store’s customers the new look at the site, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We are not your average service station in that we have a 5,000 square foot convenience store and can therefore cater for all convenience shopping,” he said. “Our delicatessen has an extensive fresh food offering and we also have a considerable off-licence. We really have a lot more than what you might expect from a convenience store and we offer our customers great value.”

Duggan also paid tribute to Tom Chawke, who had operated the business since its opening in 1983 until his retirement earlier this year. Speaking about Chawke’s motivational impact he said:  “He was a fantastic mentor for me. He set a really high standard for me to aspire to. His people skills and business acumen were just incredible.”

A further celebratory event was held at Maxol Castletroy on Saturday 12 December, when the station hosted a family fun day, complete with a visit from Mr. Claus himself.
