HBAN-backed Soopa Pets to add 10 jobs following €400K investment

HBAN, the all-island group responsible for promoting business angel investment, is investing in Soopa Pets, the maker of healthy and nutritious dog treats. The €400,000 funding was led by business angels from the HBAN Food Syndicate, with support from Enterprise Ireland, and will see the creation of 10 jobs in Soopa Pets. Founded by Barbara Hanly, Soopa Pets manufactures healthy pet treats made from 100% fruit and vegetables. The treats are now sold in the UK, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Singapore and the company is targeting further international expansion.

Roz Purcell and Holly Carpenter join the judging panel of the Bollinger Best Dressed Lady Competition at Punchestown

Top models Roz Purcell and Holly Carpenter have been revealed as the remaining two celebrity judges for the Bollinger Best Dressed Lady Competition at Punchestown this year. Roz and Holly will join judges Lottie Ryan and Bláthnaid Treacy to select the most stylish ladies in attendance, who will battle it out peep toe to kitten heel in competition for the much sought after title. The Bollinger Best Dressed Lady Competition takes place over the first 4 days of the Punchestown Festival starting Tuesday, 26 April.

Clean Sweep for Brú Brewery at SME Awards

Brú Brewery completed a clean sweep of awards at the second annual ‘Blacknight SME Awards’which took place on Saturday, 16 April 2016, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Co. Cork. The awards night, hosted by 2FM’s Rick O’Shea, celebrated the work of Irish SMEs throughout 2015. A hat trick of awards was scooped by Brú in the following categories: Best Food and Drink SME in Ireland; Best New Business (non-digital); and Best New Product/Service for its award winning Brú Gluten Free Lager. The brewery also picked up the overall ‘Blacknight SME Grand Prix Award’ for its achievements to date.

Bewley’s Barista crowned Irish Aeropress Champion

Bewley’s barista Gary Hollywood has been crowned the Irish Aeropress Champion after beating off tough competition from 24 other top baristas from across the country. He will now go on to represent Ireland at the World Aeropress Championships to be held in Dublin this June. Mark Saunders, brand director at Bewley’s said: “It’s a fantastic result that underlines the expertise of our baristas in serving up the very best speciality coffee.”

Irish Restaurant Awards announce Simon Community as official charity partner

The Irish Restaurant Awards has announced the Simon Community as its official charity partner for the Irish Restaurant Awards 2016. A raffle fundraiser will be held at the all-Ireland final ceremony on Monday, 16 May in the DoubleTree Hilton, Ballsbridge. The Simon Community across the country provides support and services to over 7,500 individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness every year.

Sofrimar Wins ‘Green Seafood Business of the Year’ at the Green Awards 2016

Irish seafood processor Sofrimar Limited won the ‘Green Seafood Business Award’ award sponsored by Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) at the annual Green Awards held in Dublin on Thursday, 14 April.
