Nestlé has launched its premium chocolate brand, Les Recettes De L’Atelier, in Ireland following impressive growth across Europe. The brand, which roughly translates as “recipes of the artisan’s shop” includes a range of delicious, smooth Swiss chocolate blocks with natural fruit and nut pieces. It is available in seven different flavours including: Raisins, Almonds and Hazelnuts; Orange Zest & Cacao Nibs; Whole Roasted Almonds & Hazelnuts; Salted Caramel; Roasted Almonds; Blueberries, Almonds & Hazelnuts; and Cranberries, Almonds & Hazelnut.
Kerry Student named 2017/2018 Supreme Apprentice Chef
Natalia Leane, a secondary student from Killarney Community College, Co Kerry, has been named the 2017/2018 Supreme Apprentice Chef in a contest supported by Flogas Ireland and Fáilte Ireland. Secondary school students from across Munster and Leinster travelled to Co. Kerry to cook in IT Tralee’s state-of-the-art kitchens, where Leane impressed the judges with her “pan seared Skeaghanore duck with a sweet orange glaze”. This is the sixth year of the Apprentice Chef Programme, which was established by Mark Doe of Just Cooking Cookery School and Mark Murphy, lecturer in Culinary Arts at IT Tralee. The duo received the 2018 Munster Local Food Hero accolade at the Irish Restaurant Awards.
The search is on for Ireland’s best Junior Baker
Dancing with the Stars Champion Karen Byrne was joined by members of Foróige to announce details of this year’s National Junior Baking Competition. Once again, Aldi is sponsoring the contest in association with youth organisation Foróige and the National Ploughing Association. The finals will take place in the Aldi Marquee at the National Ploughing Championships in September. The National Semi Finals and Final will be held from 18th – 20th September at the Aldi Marquee during the 2018 National Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly. Gala reveals recipients of its Gifts for Schools programme
Caherline National School in Caherconlish, Co. Limerick, has won the top prize of €10,000 in Gala Gifts for Schools competition, running as part of the retail group’s 20th anniversary celebrations. Shinrone National School in Birr, Offaly and Scoil Naomh Iosef in Ballyheigue, Kerry both received runner up prizes of €5,000 for their entries. Actress Aoibhín Garrihy surprised each school by appearing at a special assembly in which she gifted the schools with their prizes, on behalf of Gala Retail.
Thousands to attend health, fitness and wellness festival this weekend
housands of people will descend on the Royal Hospital Kilmainham this weekend for WellFest 2018, in association with KBC. The two-day event is Ireland’s largest health, fitness and wellness festival and will feature a star-studded line-up of national and international experts from the health and fitness industry. Highlights from the weekend include a “barre box blend” class and Q&A with TV presenter turned fitness guru Davina McCall; a HIIT workout, Q&A and cooking demo with ‘The Body Coach’ Joe Wicks, and live cooking demonstrations with famous foodies such as The Happy Pear, Roz Purcell and Ella Mills, founder of Deliciously Ella.
Sadie’s Kitchen named as NEFF brand ambassador
Healthy chicken bone broth brand Sadie’s Kitchen is one of a number of Irish food producers selected to be ambassadors for kitchen appliance brand Neff, as it launches its “Ingredients” campaign. The campaign will see customers welcomed into Neff’s state-of-the-art Home of Innovation in Dublin, for live and hands-on cookery demonstrations, workshops, training and product advice sessions. It will also appear in Neff’s upcoming cookbook, and be featured in Neff’s cookery demonstrations and the beloved Taste of Dublin festival in June.
