March alcohol prices up by 0.3% on February

Overall alcohol prices rose 0.7 per cent in the 12 months to March this year and in March by 0.3 per cent over February 2012.

A rise of 2.3 per cent was recorded by the Consumer Price Index over the three month period January to March.

Off-trade Alcohol prices rose by 1.1 per cent in March compared to February with a price increase of 3.1 per cent for Wine set against price decreases of 1.5 per cent for Spirits and 0.6 per cent for beer.

Over the course of the year off-trade alcohol prices dropped 0.8 per cent comprising a drop in Spirits prices of 4.7 per cent and Beer of 1.5 per cent while Wine prices rose 2.5 per cent.

In the on-trade a price increase was recorded in March of 0.2 per cent over February for Wine while a price decrease of 0.1 per cent was recorded for Soft Drinks & Mineral Water.

Over the course of the year prices in Licensed Premises rose by 1.3 per cent consisting of a 1.6 per cent rise in Spirits prices, a 0.8 per cent rise in Wine prices and a 1.3 per cent rise in Beer prices. Soft Drinks & Mineral Water prices rose 0.6 per cent.
Nightclub prices witnessed a drop of 4.5 per cent over the 12 months to March but a rise of 0.4 per cent was recorded over the February 2012 figure.
