Lidl Ireland opened a brand-new store on Talbot Street, Dublin on Thursday, 16 December, in a move which the retailer said will create 30 new jobs and provide an investment of €3 million to the local area.

Alex Slevin, sales operations manager for Lidl’s Dublin city centre store district, Shane Concannon, Talbot Street store manager and social media star and RTÉ presenter James Patrice, were all be on hand to open the store at the Irish Life Mall.

Customers will be able to shop Lidl’s renowned range of top-quality products at the best prices in the newly refurbished and energy efficient 1,217 metre squared shop floor. The new city centre store is the result of the redevelopment and refurbishment of vacant units in the Irish Life Mall which involved the preservation of the original façade and features of the well-known building in tribute to the heritage of the local area and community.

“We are delighted to be welcoming shoppers to our new store in the heart of Dublin city centre,” said Lidl Talbot Street store manager, Shane Concannon. “We have been working hard to get the store up and running and we look forward to our customers seeing the new store, enjoy the new features and experience the great value and fresh produce Lidl is famous for, particularly in the run up to Christmas.”

To mark the opening, Lidl Talbot Street welcomed representatives from the Belvedere Youth Centre and Mustard Seed Soup Run to accept a donation of €500 each to support the ongoing work they do in the community for the youth and homeless in the area.

This latest Dublin store opening brings the number of stores located in the City Centre to nine, ensuring better access to fresh food in the urban community it serves. The Talbot Street opening is part of a €20 million investment in the capital which included the opening of two other stores earlier this month in Baldoyle and Lusk, which each generated approximately 200 direct and indirect construction jobs.

According to Lidl, this commitment in Dublin forms part of €550 million investment in the retailer’s Irish operations over the next three years which includes strategic development of 20 new stores and the refurbishment of 24 more throughout the country.

Lidl’s newest store is located at Irish Life Mall on Talbot Street and will be open daily: Monday – Saturday 8:00am – 10:00pm, and Sunday 9am – 9pm from Thursday 16 December at 8am.
