Lidl Ireland has recently announced it will open the doors to its brand-new store in Dunboyne, Co. Meath, at 8am on Thursday 11 September, with ladies Gaelic football stars including Meath vice captain Mary Kate Lynch and Meath senior Dunboyne player Katie Bermingham cutting the ribbon on the state-of-the-art new store.
Early bird shoppers can get their chance to meet and greet local ladies Gaelic football stars and enjoy special instore entertainment and opening day offers.
The first ten customers will each receive a €20 gift voucher to spend on their shop.
Alongside the opening, the Dunboyne store team will donate €1,000 in Lidl vouchers to local charity Dunboyne Community Centre which offers classes, event spaces and summer camps for local community benefit.
Location
Located on Main Street, the opening of the Dunboyne store has created 30 permanent new jobs for the local area and takes the retailer’s store count to eight within County Meath, expanding the retailer’s workforce in the county to more than 170 employees.
With a sales floor area of 1,409 sqm, shoppers can enjoy a spacious and premium shopping experience set within a modern store and featuring a wide range of amenities for the local community including two Deposit Return Scheme machines, self-service checkouts, customer toilets and baby-changing facilities and out of home (OOH) parcel lockers.
Internally, the new store features Lidl’s iconic in-store bakery and off licence.
As Ireland’s Most Sustainable Retailer in the RepTrak Sustainability Index for 2024, the new Dunboyne store is the latest to be built to Lidl’s exacting standards, designed and constructed to prioritise sustainability and featuring a certified Energy Management System, high performing energy efficient technologies and the installation of highly efficient solar panels.
Externally, the location benefits from an ample 119-space car park which includes EV charging points.
Brian Smyth, regional property director at Lidl Ireland said: “We’re delighted to confirm the opening date for Lidl Dunboyne and welcome local shoppers to this exciting and modern new store to benefit from the market leading quality and value that Lidl offers more than 1.5 million weekly shoppers across the country.
“We are grateful to the local community and wider businesses in Dunboyne for their support in realising this project which represents a significant local investment of more than €12 million whilst also creating 30 new jobs for the local area.
“As we further embed Lidl within the community, we look forward to the wider investment which we can continue to bring to the area, building on our local supplier relationships and providing further support for students and girls and women in sport through our long-standing partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA), as well as delivering for carers through our charity partnership with Family Carers Ireland.”
Since opening its first store in County Meath in 2004, Lidl Ireland has grown its support for local suppliers and business partners in the county and, last year, procured more than €93 million worth of goods and services from 32 Meath businesses.
Lidl’s key Meath suppliers include a longstanding and fruitful partnership with Meade Farm whom the retailer has also partnered with to develop the ‘Lidl Farm’.
Together with Meade, Lidl has turned 8.5 acres of land into a free educational resource for schoolchildren at its Newbridge Distribution Centre demonstrating how the retailer’s relationship has developed significantly over the years from supplying produce to a full-fledge partnership.
More recently, Meade Farm has expanded its product line with Lidl Ireland to include new Irish Rooster Baking Potatoes.
Speaking ahead of the new store opening, LGFA Meath vice captain Mary Kate Lynch said: “Through its longstanding partnership with the LGFA, Lidl has been hugely supportive of its communities and it’s great to see them further investing in County Meath and the Dunboyne area by bringing a state-of-the-art store and creating employment for local people.
“I’m honoured to be asked to cut the ribbon on the new store and I’m excited to get the chance to meet with Lidl shoppers and celebrate the opening with everyone.”
Lidl Ireland currently employs more than 6,000 employees in its 186 stores, Head Office in Tallaght and three distribution centres and regional offices based in Charleville, Mullingar and Newbridge.
Lidl Ireland was recently named #1 Value for Money Organisation and Most Reputable Supermarket in the 2025 RepTrak Ireland study.
