Largest licensed trade ‘Gathering’ in Ireland set for September
One of the biggest licensed trade events of the year is due to kick off next September 29th as part of ‘The Gathering’.
8 May 2013
‘The Irish Pubs Global Gathering Event’ – of which Drinks Industry Ireland is the media partner – will be held in Dublin from 29th September to 2nd October when Irish bar owners from all over the world will converge on Dublin for two days of business conferencing, networking, presentations, exhibitions and workshops on how to successfully run an Irish bar.
The event will also help pubs here in Ireland to stimulate growth, providing Irish publicans the opportunity to attend the conference, network with their peers abroad to discuss common problems and arrive at possible solutions.
Irish Pubs Global, the global network linking the owners and managers of Irish pubs around the world outside of Ireland, has been creating a ‘community’ of owners and managers for the sharing and networking of knowledge and skills over the last three years. It assists and encourages Irish pubs abroad to build and maintain strong, genuine links with Ireland and Irish suppliers, in order to boost profits and become more successful.
IPG offers a range of services for its members from the recruitment of Irish staff to training downloads and essential contacts.
“At Irish Pubs Global, we’re working in the ever-changing environment of the Irish pub market and our mission is to strengthen their natural connections with Ireland and to promote their role in both supporting Irish diaspora and championing the ‘Irish Pub’ brand as a successful commercial venture,” explained Enda O’Coineen, Honorary President of Irish Pubs Global.
Topics at the two-day event include ‘Innovative Marketing’ through social media, ‘Menu Engineering’ and ‘Entertainment Programming’ for Irish pubs.
Other topics likely to be of interest include: ‘Authenticity & Positioning’, ‘The Next Generation Irish Pub’, ‘Financial Management’, ‘Fundraising & Investment’, ‘Reducing Costs & Managing Waste’.
Seminars and presentations on innovative Irish pubs will also be able to hear from motivational speakers and there will be pub twinning opportunities as well as a workshop for owners and another for managers. Guest speakers and panel discussions will also feature during the two-day event.
A cocktail competition, whiskey tasting and product display section will set the background to all this with Best Practice training and a visit to some of the more successful Irish pubs here at home forming part of the experience.
The Irish Pubs Global Gathering Event will be capped by a Gala Dinner in the Guinness Storehouse during which a presentation of awards to Irish pubs that have successfully marketed themselves around the world – bringing a bit of Ireland to a foreign sod – will take place.
The VFI and LVA have rowed in behind the event and will be running a ‘welcome’ barbecue on the opening night of the event to help Irish pub owners from abroad mingle with their peers based here in Ireland.
This is the first major gathering and pub event to be held in Ireland but represents the fourth such event by Irish Pubs Global.
Kevin McParland, Executive Director of Irish Pubs Global, explained, “It’s the genuine opportunity this year for businesses across the drinks and pubs industry to get involved and help one another to grow. It’s something positive and proactive to work on and learn from. For suppliers, it’s a very rare opportunity to be able to engage with so many decision-makers and buyers in the one room at the one time. It’s being very well received and supported by Irish suppliers through sponsorship and exhibiting. They’re aware of the opportunity and importance of this event and of helping lift and grow the Irish pubs market as a whole. There have already been a number of successful new relationships formed between suppliers and buyers after the visit to Dublin by some of our German-based Irish Pub owners recently”.
