Celtic Wind Crops, Ireland’s leading producer of Cannabidiol (CBD) products, has planted the UK and Ireland’s largest ever hemp crop spanning more than 500 acres. Located on the fertile Cooley Peninsula, a region ideal for growing hemp in County Down, Northern Ireland, the company says the new harvest is “a big step forward” in its impressive growth targets.
The 500 acre crop offers several environmental benefits, by creating a much-needed habitat for a variety of wildlife, including birds, bees, ladybugs and many other insects, as well as providing a natural source of pollen helping to fuel the bionetwork. It will also help to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the air, which the company says is a key priority as concerns of global warming continue to grow.
Celtic Wind Crops has spent more than 10 years growing and farming hemp, “selecting only the very best hemp strains” to create its CBD product range. By using a cold-pressing technique, the company says it uses “the whole goodness of the hemp plant”. This technique delivers a 100% natural, hemp oil, which differs from other CBD oils on the market which in many cases, extract the CBD from the hemp and place it in a carrier such as olive oil or coconut oil.
Meanwhile, an Irish Times report shows there has been some confusion about the legality of CBD products in Ireland in recent months, despite the fact that under EU regulations, plants containing CBD may be grown as long at their THC content (the psychoactive component) is less than 0.2%.
