Killowen Farm received the highest accolade of 3 Stars for its Blackcurrant layered yogurt jar at this year’s Great Taste Awards; making it the only yogurt producer across Ireland and the UK to achieve this feat.

From almost 13,000 entries in the competition, just 208 three-star awards were made, 10 of them going to entries from the Republic of Ireland and eight to producers in Northern Ireland.

Killowen Farm also picked up a further eight awards; 2 Stars were awarded for its Lemon Curd, Wexford Rhubarb and Blackberry flavours, 1 Star was awarded for the Raspberry layered jar and four 1 Star awards were received for private-label products.

Judges praised the blackcurrant flavour which uses locally sourced berries, noting that the “flavours balance beautifully, the yogurt is full of superb dairy richness and the marriage of the two gives a full taste and overall a delightful experience”.

“We are thrilled to receive 3 Stars at this year’s awards,” said Nicholas Dunne, CEO of Killowen Farm. “We are now in the running for the Great Taste Golden Fork Award which is announced in September and recognises the best food and drink on offer. Whichever way it goes, we are delighted with the announcement and look forward to celebrating the win with the team on the farm in Courtnacuddy.

Award-winning Killowen Farm products, which are made from the milk of its own herd of happy cows in Co. Wexford, are stocked nationwide in Dunnes Stores, SuperValu and Tesco, as well as other independent speciality retailers.
