The first barometer of Ireland’s most chosen FMCG brands has been announced by Kantar Worldpanel. The listing shows the brands that are bought by the most consumers, most often. Avonmore leads the ranking as Ireland’s most chosen brand, picked an average of 29 times a year by 83% of the population. Three out of the top five are strong Irish products with Brennans and Denny in second and third place respectively.

David Berry, commercial director at Kantar Worldpanel said: "Irish brands have performed remarkably well in the ranking with the top three brands all well known, local names. Times are tough and consumers are increasingly turning to the brands and foods they know and trust. Avonmore’s clear local strategy has made it a popular choice with consumers."

In the global ranking, the emerging markets of Asia, Latin America and Saudi Arabia are driving 98% of growth for brands in the top 50, presenting a key opportunity for Irish brands if they can tailor their products to meet global demands.

Nicola Weldon, marketing manager at Denny, said: "As a company which is proud of its Irish roots it’s great to be confirmed as one of the nation’s favourite brands. Our origins can be traced back to 1820 and we continue to produce top-quality sausages, bacon and cooked meats to this day, meaning consumers know Denny is a brand they can trust."

The top 10 brands bought in Ireland are; Avonmore, Brennans, Denny, Knorr, Jacobs, Batchelors, Birds Eye, McVities, Heinz and Muller.
