Diageo’s Johnnie Walker topped the list of spirits brands weighted for overall market volume, per case average and five-year growth to 2011.

The Scotch was followed by Hennessy Cognac, Chivas Regal and Jack Daniel’s ahead of Jameson.

Diageo emerged as the most prominent brand-owner with the greatest number of brands in the IWSR list – 21 – followed by Pernod with 18, Beam with 10 and Bacardi with a similar total. William Grant & Sons had six.

After Scotch with 33 brands on the list of 124, vodka came second with 21 and although only five Cognacs were included, three – Hennessy, Remy Martin and Martell – were in the top 10.
